EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — No letdown here!
One week after seizing the inside track to the NEWHA title,
Megan Bouveur produced her first career hat trick and the LIU women's ice hockey defeated Post, 7-1, on Friday at Northwell Health Ice Center.
Bri Eid and
Anna Fairman opened the scoring for the Sharks, who never trailed in the opener of home-and-home games between the teams.
Ashley Morrow and
Ryane Kearns added third-period goals.
Kearns produced her first career goal, while Fairman notched her first as a Shark.
Abby Latorella, part of the original LIU women's hockey incoming class, played in her 100th career game with the Sharks, now joining teammates Bouveur and
Alva Johnsson in reaching that milestone.
Annie Abramson started for the Sharks in place of under-the-weather No. 1 goaltender
Tindra Holm, who did not dress. Abramson was required to make only seven saves en route to improving her record to 3-2 during her freshman season.
"It's definitely a testament to the defense," coach
Kelly Nash said. "And Annie did a good job with those seven shots as well. It was good to see her in net this weekend."
LIU (13-10-2, 12-1-2 NEWHA) was coming off a big win against Saint Anselm last Saturday on Long Island that broke a tie atop the conference standings.
"The messaging before the game was the consistency piece," Nash said. "Whether we're playing for first place or any games in the conference or playing the top teams in the country, consistency was the messaging. We think that they did a really great job with that."
LU and Post meet again on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at SportsCenter of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn. The Sharks are now 11-0-0 lifetime against the Eagles.
