BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – LIU baseball was able to begin the month of May with a victory.
The Sharks beat the Pioneers, 7-5, on Sunday to improve to 27-14 overall on the season and 12-6 in conference action. The 12 conference win is tied for the most in the conference with FDU (12).
Sacred Heart held the lead for the majority of the game, but the eighth inning proved to be enough for LIU.
After
Bentley Boekhout singled and
Seth Surrett was hit by a pitch,
EJ Exposito tied the game on an RBI single before
Giovanni Ciaccio doubled to left to score the go-ahead runs.
Surrett added an insurance RBI in the top of the ninth, bringing the score to the eventual final of 7-5.
Christopher Wasson finished the day 3-3 with a run scored. Surrett, Boekhout, and Ciaccio each had two hits.
Josh Gainer came out of the bullpen and hurled four scoreless innings to pick up his second win of the season. Gainer's four-inning day was the longest outing of his career.
The Sharks travel to Army on Tuesday, May 3, for a midweek matchup at 3 p.m.
