BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU baseball earned its second walk-off win of the weekend on a two-run homerun from
EJ Exposito in the bottom of the ninth to take down Merrimack, 4-3. With the victory, the Sharks improve to 16-11 overall and 3-3 in Northeast Conference play.
LIU struck first in the bottom half of the opening inning by loading the bases and scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Christopher Wasson to take a 1-0 lead.
After allowing a base runner to start the second,
Ryan Neuweiler fanned three straight batters, striking out four through two innings of work to preserve the Sharks lead. The Warriors would tie the game in the third on a solo homerun before taking their first lead in the sixth, 3-1.
Still trailing in the bottom of the eighth,
Jack Power reached on an error and
Connor Price singled to center to kickstart the offense.
Seth Surrett collected his 15
th RBI of the season on a single to right to bring the score to 3-2.
Chris Buehler surrendered a double to start the ninth, but he battled back to force a groundout before stirking out two batters swinging, sending the game to the bottom of the ninth.
Michael Edelman drew a walk to start the inning, and Exposito would demolish a fastball to deep left field to walk-off and win the game, 4-3.
Buehler earned the win after throwing an impressive three innings out of the bullpen, allowing only two hits and striking out four. Kalantzakos took the loss for Merrimack.
