NEWARK, N.J. – The LIU women's tennis team won another close match on the road Sunday, beating NJIT, 4-3. The win was the third straight for the Sharks, and the seventh dual match win this season.
SHARK BITES
- LIU took the doubles point for the early advantage. Valentina Dancenco and Sofiya Kuzina had the first win of the day, beating their opponents in the No. 1 spot, 6-3. Victoria Erechtchenko and Elinor Storkaas clinched the point with their win at No. 2, 6-1.
- Kuzina made it 2-0 Sharks with her win at No. 1 singles. She beat NJIT's Aya El Sayed, 6-3. 6-1.
- Bianca Compuesto gave LIU a 3-0 lead with her straight set win at No. 4, where she beat Shalom Salvi, 6-2, 6-4.
- The home team would take the next three wins to tie it up, with victories at Nos. 3, 5 and 2.
- But LIU pulled out the win in the No. 6 spot. There, Kate Jorjoliani beat Advaita Saravanan, 7-6(4), 7-5 to clinch the victory for LIU.
- Up next, the Sharks take on Rutgers on the road, Friday, March 4 at 11 a.m.
