CARY, N.C. – The LIU baseball team notched a huge win on the road Saturday, beating BIG TEN foe Penn State in game two of a doubleheader, 11-8. The Nittany Lions won the first game of the day, 14-3, but LIU took the second game to improve to 2-1 on the season. The win was head coach

SHARK BITES - PSU 14, LIU 3
- In the first game of the day, the Nittany Lions scored six runs in the first inning, on three hits and an error.
- The Sharks got on the board in the top of the second, scoring a run on an RBI double by RJ Latkowski to make it 6-1.
- The Nittany Lions added runs in the second, fourth and sixth, pushing their lead to 12-1.
- In the eighth, senior Colin Adams knocked in an RBI on a single up the middle to score EJ Exposito. Luke Turner would get an RBI single of his own moments later, to score Giovanni Ciaccio and make it 12-3.
- Penn State scored two more in the ninth to take the win, 14-3. Jalen Wade (0-1) took the bump for LIU in game one.
SHARK BITES - LIU 11, PSU 8
- The second game of the double header seemed like it was off to a similar start, when Penn State scored five runs in the first inning to take the early lead.
- LIU changed the tune in the second when they got on the board in the top of the inning. Two walks and a single loaded the bases, and Connor Price brought them all home with a double to right center field, that cut the lead to 5-3.
- PSU added a run, but in the top of the fourth, LIU answered with two more. Seth Surrett had a lead off walk and was advanced by a sac bunt from Price. He'd score from second on freshman Jack Power's RBI single. With two outs, a single and a walk loaded the bases, and Ciaccio walked for an RBI, closing the lead to 6-5.
- The Sharks took the lead for the first time in the top of the sixth. Singles for Power and Expositto loaded the bases with one out. Ciaccio would clear them with his three RBI triple to left field, and LIU led, 8-6. Two batters later, Michael Edelman had an RBI double that widened the lead to 10-6.
- The Nittany Lions would add two in the bottom of the inning, but LIU would tack on a run in the top of the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, Edleman walked for the RBI, increasing LIU's lead to 11-8.
- Kurt Lange pitched 3.1 shutout innings to clinch the win for the Sharks and earn his first save of the season. The grad student had five strikeouts and no hits. Senior Nick DeSalvo (1-0) had the win on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up just two runs.
- Ciaccio finished with four RBI on a hit and two walks to lead the offense. Senior Christopher Wasson was 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, while EJ Exposito was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Michael Edeleman was 2-for-5 with three RBI, while Connor Price was 1-for-2 with three RBI, and Jack Power was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
