SHARKS WIN! Women’s Tennis Defeats Fordham, 5-2

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – The LIU women's tennis team won their second-straight dual match Saturday, this time on the road. The Sharks beat local rival Fordham, 5-2.
 
"I am really happy with the team's performance today," head coach Jan Griga said. "We came out focused and with a purpose. The work we've been putting in every day is really starting to pay dividends."
 
SHARK BITES
  • LIU won the doubles point by taking victories in the Nos. 1 and 2 spots. Victoria Erechtchenko and Elinor Storkaas had the first win at No. 2, with a 6-2 defeat, followed by a win for Valentina Dancenco and Sofiya Kuzina at No. 1, 6-3.
  • Dancenco and Kuzina rattled off straight-set wins for points two and three for the Sharks. Dancenco won at 2, 6-1, 6-2, and Kuzina had a 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot.
  • Fordham got on the board with a win at No. 3 singles, but Erechtchenko clinched the match point for LIU with her 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
  • Elinor Storkaas added another win at No. 5 singles, rallying from dropping the second set to win in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4.
