BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The LIU women's lacrosse team opened their 2022 campaign at home against Hofstra University Saturday, falling to the Pride, 8-5. Sophomore Jen Gaffney led the Sharks with two goals.
 
Shark Bites:

• Gaffney scored the first goal of the 2022 season for the Sharks, finding the back of the net just two minutes into the contest for an early 1-0 lead.
• Hofstra would go on a 4-0 run in the second frame to end the first half ahead, 4-1. They added two more in the third to wide the lead to 6-1.
• The Sharks stopped the Pride run midway through the third quarter, as Gina Toscano scored to cut the deficit to 6-2. Whitney Moran added a goal in the fourth to make it 7-3.
• LIU would make a late push the final minutes of the game, with goals from Ava Barry on a free position shot, and a diving goal in the final minute from Gaffney, but the Pride held on to win, 8-5.
• Sharks goalie Hailey Duchnowski made 14 saves, just three shy of her career-high.
• The Sharks will be back in action Wednesday, February 16, when they host Iona at 2 p.m.
