BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Northeast Conference play began in the Barclays Center for LIU and Wagner on Thursday. And it was tight throughout with the game coming down to the wire.
Ultimately, the Sharks fell to the Seahawks, 69-61, and moved to 2-11 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Sharks trailed by three at the break but kept the game within reach for the entirety of the first half. They shot 44% from the field and 3-7 from three-point range.
After his first career start vs. Purchase,
Andre Washington earned the nod against the Seahawks and continued his impressive start to the season in just his third game.
Another fresh addition to the rotation has been
C.J. Delancy. The freshman started and provided an interior presence and collected three steals in the high post. He finished with nine points, five rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
LIU regained its first lead of the second half on a field goal from Maletic less than a minute in. They did not relinquish the lead for nine minutes.
Washington fouled out with three minutes remaining. He finished with 15 points on 6-11 shooting.
As a team, the Sharks shot 49%, their highest mark against a Division I opponent.
