Men's Basketball Travels Upstate to Face UAlbany

TROY, N.Y. — LIU men's basketball showed grit and stayed within striking distance with America East member, UAlbany, on Wednesday night.

The Sharks fell to the Great Danes, 76-59, after being on the wrong end of a second half surgeand moved to 1-9 overall.

Quion Burns was 3-3 to begin the game but sustained a lower body injury at the 11:01 mark in the first. He did not return and only played nine minutes.

Tre' Wood returned after missing the UConn contest on Dec. 10 and effectively facilitated. The redshirt senior had six assists in his first 17 minutes of action.

The Sharks led for nearly nine minutes but trailed by one at the half. The defense held UAlbany to just a 34% mark from the field and 2-10 from deep.

The Great Danes pulled away in the second after three Sharks — R.J. Greene, Cheikh Ndiaye and C.J. Delancy — picked up their fourth fouls before the under-eight media timeout.

Marko Maletic continued to pour in points off the bench and led LIU with 22 points, the only player in double figures. Jacob Johnson had nine points and four rebounds.

LIU returns to action Sunday at 2p.m. against James Madison. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
