BROOKLYN, N.Y. — In its regular season finale, LIU women's volleyball celebrated five seniors with their friends and families in attendance.
Those friends and families then witnessed a straight-set sweep over Merrimack, 25-8, 25-23, 25-22, on Friday night, to close out the regular season.
The honorees were
Anastasia Scott,
Riana Blount,
Karolina Nova,
Barbora Hošková and
Anisa Lopez.
"It was a great night to celebrate our seniors," head coach
Ken Ko said. "They have done so much for our program — some in the spotlight and some in the background more. But we are who we are today because of them and their years of service. I am excited and looking forward the championship weekend."
The Sharks, who clinched an NEC Tournament bid on Friday, move to 14-12 and 9-5 in conference play.
They earned the No. 4 seed and will draw No. 1 seed Sacred Heart, the host school, this upcoming Friday at 6 p.m.
In a dominant first-set victory on Saturday night, LIU totaled five service aces and began the match with a kill from Blount, her second of 2022.
Blount, a senior from Henderson, Nev., was a perfect 7-7 on swings, notching a new career high.
Allie Merz had another steady performance on both ends, collecting 25 assists and six digs.
LIU closed the regular season winning four of its final five matches.
