BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Ayinde Johnson did it again!
Johnson, a redshirt freshman defensive back and the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, recorded an interception in the final minute with the opposition threatening for a second straight week and the LIU football team held on to defeat Stonehill, 34-28, on Saturday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Sharks have now won three straight entering next week's finale at Sacred Heart.
Tight end
Owen Glascoe had three touchdowns, including two on direct snaps rushing, and
Davon Wells had eight receptions for 163 yards and one touchdown in the victory.
True freshman quarterback
Luca Stanzani improved to 3-0 as a starter. He completed 19 of 29 passes for 333 yards and three TDs.
Johnson's interception came with 47 seconds remaining, after Stonehill had driven into LIU territory. A week ago, Johnson had a pick six in the final minute and returned it 40 yards to secure a 29-20 win against Central Connecticut State.
This time, the Sharks had built a 27-7 halftime lead en route to the victory.
"We're playing with a lot of energy," Glascoe said. "We're rallying together."
