PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The LIU women's swimming team's season is underway.
The Sharks competed at the Rutgers Preseason Tune-Up on Friday and Saturday.
Junior
Maaike Broeresma finished third in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, with times of 58.03 and 2:06.73, respectively.
Teammate and fellow junior
Venna Andersen finished third in the 50 free in 23.84.
The Sharks also took third in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, with Broeresma,
Rea Shehu,
Allison Naylor and Andersen producing a time of 1:39.15 in the former race and Broeresma,
Ella Johnson,
Alycia Weber and Andersen combining on a time of 3:36.62 in the latter.
LIU returns to action Oct. 21 at Iona.
"I think we had a great opening weekend — lots of great swims and great competition," coach
Bobby Smith said. "I'm very happy with where we are and how we are racing at this point in the season."
