BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The NEC champion LIU baseball team had a special moment on Saturday.
Members of the 2022 squad were honored on the field at halftime of the football team's homecoming game against Saint Francis U at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The team, which competed at College Park, Md., in an NCAA Baseball Regional, carried its NEC championship trophy to midfield during Saturday's ceremony.
Several members of the team who have graduated returned to campus for the celebration, including
Giovanni Ciaccio,
Victor DeNicola,
Michael Edelman,
EJ Exposito,
Joshua Gainer,
Philip Gerena,
Joshua Loeschorn,
Ryan Mullahey,
Ryan Neuweiler and
Christopher Wasson.
The 2022 Sharks set the program's Division I single-season record for wins with 37 and earned both the NEC's regular-season and postseason titles.
Dan Pirillo was named NEC Coach Of The Year and Loeschorn was named an All-American.
Both Exposito (16th round, Atlanta Braves) and Loeschorn (20th round, Pittsburgh Pirates) were selected in the MLB draft.
Pirillo celebrated his birthday on Saturday. And he was presented with a framed photo of the team during the ceremony.
