BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU men's basketball team notched its first Northeast Conference win of the season at home Thursday night, beating Mount St. Mary's, 74-57. Senior
Ty Flowers led the squad and filled the stat sheet, with a team-high 23 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks.
SHARK BITES
- Mount jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the Steinberg Center in the first. Though LIU was slow to get shooting, when they did, they didn't stop. Down 8-5, the Sharks went on a six minute run. In that span, they out-scored the Mountaineers, 18-2, including three steals on defense, and three-pointers from Quion Burns and Flowers. The run gave the Sharks a 23-10 lead with eight minutes to play.
- LIU led, 36-21 at the half, and would not trail again.
- The Sharks led by as many as 23 points in the second half, winning in the end, 74-57.
- LIU had 17 steals on Mount's 20 turnovers, scoring 27 points off of those steals.
- Senior Eral Penn had 20 points for LIU, along with six rebounds and two steals.
- Tre Wood had 12 points, all of which came in the second half, along with four assists and three steals.
- Sophomore Kyndall Davis had a team-high five assists and five steals, tying the team high with six rebounds.
- Isaac Kante finished with six rebounds, while Quion Burns and Alex Rivera each had five rebounds, as LIU out-rebound the Mountaineers, 39-32.
- With the win, LIU is now 4-9 on the season, and 1-2 in the NEC.
