Water Polo Wraps Up Day Two of Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The LIU women's water polo team wrapped up the Michigan Invitational with games against #2 Stanford and #3 UCLA. LIU fell 21-7 to Stanford, and 17-3 to UCLA.

Shark Bites – LIU vs #2 Stanford
  • Stanford struck first in the contest, but late in the first quarter, Jessica Dean buried the ball into the back of the net to get the Sharks onto the board for the first time in the contest.
  • Taylor Thurlow scored her first goal of the year, and Jeannet Garcia also added a goal in the second quarter, but the Cardinal were on top at halftime 11-3.
  • Stanford had the advantage in the third quarter, but Jenna Anderson found the back of the net to break the scoreless streak for the Sharks.
  • The fourth quarter would be a back-and-forth battle between the two sides, as the Cardinal and Sharks scored seven combinend goals. Jessica Dean, Elena Camarena, and Amelia Sanchez each scored for the Sharks, but LIU would fall 21-7 to Stanford.
  • Julia Zebak made eight saves in three periods of action with Rebecca Ansell making two of her own once she entered the net in the fourth quarter.
Shark Bites – LIU vs #3 UCLA
  • After falling behind early in the contest, Paola Dominguez scored to get LIU on the board, and cut the deficit to 4-1.
  •  Thurlow scored her second goal in as many games, and Dominguez added one more of her own in the fourth quarter, before falling to the Bruins 17-3.
  • Julia Zebak made eight saves in the game.
LIU will be back in action next Friday, February 5th, whenn they take part in the Bruno Classic.
