EMMITSBURG, Md. – The LIU women's lacrosse team lost for just the second time this season, falling on the road to Mount St. Mary's Wednesday afternoon, 18-6.
Mount, who is 7-0 in NEC action, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Sharks before LIU would get on the board. Senior
Jamie Alvino was the first to score for the Sharks nine minutes into the game, cutting the lead to 2-1.
Mount would score six straight from there to widen the lead back up. Senior
Rachel Masullo would score before the half, assisted by
Paige Sherlock, but LIU trailed 9-2 at the break.
Midway though the second half, LIU would score three straight goals. Alvino was first, followed by a goal from
Sara Stephens. And
Rachel Masullo scored her second, to make it 13-5. Masullo would add one more, assisted by
Francesca Vasile-Cozzo, but in the end, the Sharks fell, 18-6.
LIU moves to 7-2 on the season, and 5-2 in Northeast Conference action with the loss. Up next, the Sharks head north to take on Merrimack, Saturday, April 10 at 11 a.m.
