FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The LIU baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference matchup at Sacred Heart Tuesday evening, 8-7. The Pioneers would score five runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the win.
LIU got on the board first, when senior
Anthony Warneke led off with a single to center field. He stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, scoring when
EJ Exposito singled to center field.
SHU tied it up in the bottom of the frame, and would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning, 2-1. LIU would tie it up again in the top of the fifth, when
Andy Camilo was walked to bring in a run.
In the top of the seventh, the Sharks would score five runs, jumping out to a lead.
Colin Adams came in to pinch hit with no outs and the bases loaded, and singled through the left side to score a run. Camilo would then hit a huge double to left center field, bringing in two more to make it 5-3. A sac fly from
Myles Proctor added another run, and the fifth run of the inning would score on an SHU error. The Sharks finished the frame up, 7-3.
But the home team would answer in the bottom of the eighth inning, using a two RBI double and a three RBI home run to take the lead back, 8-7. The Sharks couldn't answer in the top of the ninth, and the game ended in favor of the Pioneers.
