NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The LIU men's lacrosse team had its five-game win streak snapped on the road Saturday, falling to Merrimack, 14-10. With the loss, the Sharks move to 4-1 in Northeast Conference action.
LIU got on the board first, when
Jake Gillis scored off a pass from
Richie LaCalandra just two minutes into the game. But the Warrior would score twice in the first period to take a 2-1 lead.
The Sharks would even it up 90 seconds into the second period, when
Will Snelders scored.
Blake Behlen would put LIU up at the 10 minute mark with his ninth goal of the season, but four straight goals by the Warriors gave the home team a 6-3 lead at halftime.
In the first two minutes of the third period, LIU would add two quick goals to close the gap. Senior
Alex Russell would score with help from Behlen, and just 18 seconds later,
Richie LaCalandra would score his first goal of the game off a pass from
Jake Murphy to make it 6-5.
Merrimack would score another three straight to go up 9-5, but
Nick Grassa would keep LIU in the hunt on his goal at 10:36. LaCalandra and Gillis would both score again, and LIU trailed, 10-8 heading into the fourth period.
LaCalandra would score twice more in the fourth, but Merrimack added four more in the final period, taking the win, 14-10.
Will Mark would make 12 saves in net in the loss.
