LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The LIU field hockey team saw its 2020-21 season come to an end on the road Thursday afternoon, as the Sharks fell to top-seeded Rider in the Northeast Conference championship game, 5-0.
The host Broncs got the jump on LIU early on, dominating the offensive possessions. Rider would score one goal each in the first and second periods, before two goals in the third and one in the fourth put the game out of reach.
In the end, Rider had an 18-2 advantage on shots, and an 11-0 advantage on penalty corners.
Senior keeper
Rachel Vellis made eight saves in net for LIU, earning All-Championship Team honors for her efforts.
Sammy Bell and
Maddie Leitner registered shots for LIU in the loss.
The Sharks finish the season with a 4-2 overall record, 4-1 in NEC play.
