CARLISLE, Pa. – The LIU women's swimming team proved their depth Wednesday in the second day of competition at the Northeast Conference championship meet. Though LIU didn't have a champion on day two, the Sharks had multiple medalists, and jumped two spots in the standings, to sit in third place overall heading into the last day of the meet.
The top finish on the day came from freshman
Venna Andersen, who finished second in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:03.30. She was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that medaled, as the squad of
Jacqueline Grabowski, Andersen,
Sara Rodriguez Rubio and
Aidan Condit came in third, with a time of 1:43.48.
Grabowski also medaled in the 100 backstroke, coming in third with a time of 56.35, while Condit placed seventh (57.15), and Rodriguez Rubio took eighth (57.19).
And the last group to medal Wednesday was the 800 free relay team of
Reyna Iwamoto,
Maja Uduc,
Ella Johnson and
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan, who finished third in 7:42.71.
LIU would also score a lot of points in spots where they didn't win medals. The Sharks had three A finalists in the 100 butterfly, led by Johnson's fourth place finish, in 55.89. Grabowksi (56.20 – 6th) and Rodriguez Rubio (56.74 – 8th) also scored points for LIU.
And in the 400 IM, LIU's
Itzy Gonzalez Rojas and Touchette-McGowan went 1-2 in the B final, to score valuable points for LIU.
