BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU field hockey team dropped a close one at home in their season opener Thursday afternoon, falling to Rider, 1-0.
 
The Broncs would score midway through the first period to go up 1-0, but despite outshooting LIU 10-3, they would not score again in the contest.
 
The Sharks had three shots on goal, all of which came in the third period from senior Sammy Bell. Senior goalie Rachel Vellis made four saves in net.
