Orth’s 348 Yards Leads Football in Duel with Duquesne

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU football team battled Duquesne back-and-forth at home Saturday afternoon in Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium, in a game that went down to the last play of the game. The Dukes snuck out with the win, 34-28, improving to 3-2 in the Northeast Conference, while LIU moves to 2-3.
 
SHARK BITES
  • The Sharks got on the board first in the opening quarter when senior Jonathan DeBique ran it in for a 28 yard rushing touchdown. Paul Inzerillo made the kick, and LIU had a 7-0 lead.
  • After Duquesne made a field goal, LIU added another touchdown with five minutes left in the quarter. Quarterback Camden Orth found senior Derick Eugene for a 25 yard passing touchdown that gave LIU a 14-3 lead.
  • The Dukes scored twice in the second quarter, taking a 17-14 lead into the halftime break. Coming out of the break, Duquesne widened the lead to 24-14 with another touchdown before the Sharks would score again.
  • DeBique had another rushing touchdown, this time for six yards, closing the gap to 24-21.
  • Duquesne scored again towards the end of the third quarter and then again midway through the fourth, taking a 34-21 lead, but the Sharks would not back down. Orth would find Tosin Oyekanmi on a 58-yard pass for a touchdown with 4:39 to play that gave LIU a fighting chance, 34-28.
  • Duquesne would turn the ball over on downs with just over a minute left, and LIU would attempt a final drive down the field, but fell just short, and the Dukes took the narrow win.
  • Orth went 21-for-26 with 348 yards and two touchdown passes.
  • Jonathan DeBique led the rushing game for LIU, with 103 yards on 16 attempts, including two rushing touchdown.
  • Tosin Oyekanmi and Owen Glascoe were LIU's top receivers Saturday. Oyekanmi had five catches for 137 yards, including a touchdown. Glascoe had seven catches for 113 yards, spearheading several crucial LIU drives.
  • Jerome Brooks III led LIU's defense, with seven total tackles and an interception. Thomas Bolesta also had seven tackles, while Sean Kelly had six. Rudy Silvera also had an interception for the Sharks.
  • Up next, the Sharks travel to take on Bryant, Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m.
