LORETTO, Pa. – The LIU field hockey team capped their regular season on the road Sunday afternoon, battling Saint Francis U. for 60 minutes before ultimately falling to the Red Flash 1-0. With the loss, the Sharks move to 6-10, 4-3 in the Northeast Conference, and clinch the No. 3 seed in the NEC tournament.
LIU will take on No. 2 seed Wagner in the NEC semifinals at the NEC Tournament, hosted by Wagner, November 5 & 7.
SHARK BITES
- The game was a close one - SFU out-shot the Sharks just 7-4, while LIU had a 7-4 advantage on penalty corners.
- Goalie Rachel Vellis made four saves in the net for the Sharks.
- SFU's lone goal came in the second period on a breakaway, to give the home team the 1-0 lead.
