BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Head coach
Bryan Collins announced the Long Island University 2019 football schedule on Thursday, April 4, revealing a 10-game slate for the team's first season of Division I Football Championship Subdivision competition.
LIU will face seven Northeast Conference opponents, while also taking part in three scheduled non-conference games. Ongoing discussions will continue for additional open dates on LIU's inaugural Division I schedule.
"We are excited to be able to compete at the highest level," Collins commented. "We know that we have some tough opponents on the schedule, but we are confident in our players and are looking forward to getting better each day this spring and during camp as we prepare for Division I competition."
LIU begins its 2019 campaign with a stiff test against perennial powerhouse and 2018 national semifinalist South Dakota State University during week two on Sept. 7 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Following a bye week, NEC play begins on Sept. 21 when LIU hosts Sacred Heart University at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Following the home opener, LIU will play in three-consecutive road conference matchups from Sept. 28 to Oct. 12. During week five, LIU will make the short trip to Wagner College before heading to reigning NEC champion Duquesne University during week six and Bryant University during week seven.
On Oct. 19, LIU plays host to Saint Francis University before traveling to Central Connecticut State University on Oct. 26 and Robert Morris University on Nov. 2. A bye during week 11 leads into the final two weeks of the regular season beginning with a road test as game one of a home-and-home series with Villanova University. The regular season concludes on Nov. 23 when LIU hosts a familiar foe in Merrimack College as the Warriors begin their three-year transition to Division I status.
The FCS playoffs begin on Nov. 30, with a national champion being crowned on Jan. 11, 2020 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
