Softball Reveals 2020 Schedule

2020 Softball Schedule

BROOKLYN, N.Y.
– Long Island University softball head coach Roy Kortmann announced the team's 2020 schedule Thursday afternoon. Playing in their inaugural season as the Sharks, LIU will take part in five early-season tournaments as a part of a 53-game slate, before returning to the Northeast for conference play.
 
The Sharks open the season at the FGCU Kickoff Classic, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast, February 7-9. In those three days, LIU will play five games against some of the top teams in the Northeast region, taking on the host Eagles, as well as UConn, Boston College, Georgetown and Delaware.
 
LIU follows that up with a trip to California, where they will take part in the Golden State Classic in Lake Elsinore, California, February 14-16. The Sharks will take on local foe Army, but also face off against four California teams, including San Jose State, the University of San Diego, UC Davis and Loyola Marymount.
 
Three more Florida tournament follow the West Coast swing. First is the Florida Atlantic "Strikeout Cancer" Tournament. LIU will take on Illinois State twice, North Florida, host FAU and Hofstra in the three-day event, February 21-23. From there, the Sharks head to Orlando, to take part in the UCG Invitational, February 28 - March 1.  LIU will face off against Columbia and the host Knights on day one, followed by contests against Ball State, Longwood and Drexel.
 
LIU wraps up the bulk of non-conference play from March 6-14, taking part in the Spring Games tournament in Longwood, Florida. Over a nine-day span, the Sharks will play 10 games, against Creighton, Charleston Southern, Saint Louis, Bethune-Cookman, North Carolina A&T, Northern Kentucky, Niagara, North Florida, Stetson and Eastern Illinois.
 
From there, LIU returns to north for their Northeast Conference slate, and a select few non-conference matchups. The Sharks will take on St. John's (March 25), Stony Brook (April 1), Iona (April 8), Rutgers (April 22) and Hofstra (April 29) in single-game midweek action to round out non-conference play.
 
The NEC slate begins on Saturday, March 28, when the Sharks will host Fairleigh Dickinson in a double header at the LIU Softball Complex in Brookville, N.Y. A road trip to Mount St. Mary's follows for a double header on Sunday, March 29.
 
The following weekend is another home/away split, as LIU will play at Wagner, Saturday, April 4, and then host Sacred Heart, Sunday, April 5.
 
The weekend of April 10 and 11, LIU will host the Pennsylvania contingent of the NEC, taking on Robert Morris and Saint Francis U. in two double headers. Two weekends of road trips follow, as LIU will travel to CCSU, Saturday, April 18, and to Bryant, Saturday, April 25. LIU rounds out the season with a final home double header, hosting the newest member of the NEC, Merrimack, Sunday, April 26.
 
The NEC Tournament will take place at the top seed, May 7-10, with the first round of the NCAA Regionals taking place May 14-17.
