Women's Soccer Concludes 2019 Season Against Bryant

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Long Island University women's soccer team concluded its 2019 slate on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Bryant University Bulldogs in a tightly contested 1-0 game.

The Sharks outshot the Bulldogs 11-4 and finished with a 4-2 shots on goal advantage. Kendra Oldroyd led the team with four shots on the day. Julia Duffy had a team-best two shots on goal. Sarah Borer and Mariah Morgan both finished with a shot on goal. Gabrielle Clark, Emily Poole, and Olivia Wesch all finished with a shot.

Lydia Fraga Cordoba started in goal for the Sharks. She finished with one save in the first half. Kayla DeTreux came into the game in the second half and did not allow a goal.

Oldroyd had the first opportunity on net for the Sharks but her first shot went just high. Borer would be the first to test the goalkeeper, but her shot was saved. Oldroyd would have another opportunity, but her shot was blocked by the Bryant defense.

The lone goal of the match came in the 16th minute when Bryant was able to convert a free kick opportunity, after sending the ball into the left corner of the box where it was deflected in by a defender. Bryant was able to take a header shot just four minutes later, but Fraga Cordoba came up with the save to keep the deficit at one. The Sharks had a chance to tie the game in the 27th minute, as Clark's initial shot was blocked and Oldroyd's shot off the rebound missed just wide.

Bryant had three corner kicks to open the second half, but the defense would not allow the Bulldogs to get a shot off either of those opportunities. Bryant nearly extended its lead in the 57th minute, but the shot was blocked right at the goal line to keep it a one-goal game. The Sharks would not give in, pressuring the Bulldogs' goalkeeper to make a few saves. Duffy nearly tied the game in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper came away with the save, before the offense could gather the loose ball and find the back of the net. The Sharks had a corner kick late in the game, but Wesch's shot off the corner was just wide.

The Sharks finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 5-12-1 and a 4-6-0 mark in conference play.
