BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback against Saint Francis University Friday afternoon at the LIU Soccer Park in a Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup.
Sophomore
Kendra Oldroyd led the Sharks with four shots and one shot on goal while sophomore
Mia Rose Daly, sophomore
Sarah Borer and freshman
Hedda Einarsson each had one shot. Freshman goalkeeper
Kayla DeTreux tallied five saves and the Sharks held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks over the Red Flash.
After a save by DeTreux just 20 seconds into the match, Oldroyd almost gave LIU an early 1-0 lead but her shot was saved by SFU's goalkeeper. Oldroyd would shoot again in the 25
th minute but have her shot blocked.
She continued to be a scoring threat throughout the remainder of the half, sending a shot just high in the 43
rd minute. As neither side could find the back of the net, the match was 0-0 at halftime.
DeTreux opened the second half with another key save, this one coming in the 48
th minute. Oldroyd had another shot blocked in the 58
th minute then DeTreux would tally another save in the 67
th minute.
In the 73
rd minute the Red Flash would score the opening goal of the match and take a 1-0 lead. Rose Daly had a scoring opportunity in the 79
th minute, but her shot was blocked.
Saint Francis would score its second goal in the 85
th minute and hold on for the 2-0 victory.

The Sharks will take on Robert Morris College (3-6-1, 1-1-0) in an NEC matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the LIU Soccer Park. A ceremony honoring LIU's seniors will be held prior to kickoff.
