BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's swimming team premieres as the Sharks for the first time in the water this weekend, taking part in the annual Brooklyn Invitational. The meet, hosted over two days in two pools, features LIU, along with Brooklyn rivals St. Francis, and new Northeast Conference member Merrimack. The Terriers will host the start of the competition, Friday, October 4 in Brooklyn Heights, while LIU will host Saturday's portion of the meet in LIU Pool in downtown Brooklyn.
NEC POLL
Prior to the season, the Conference also released its annual preseason poll, and the Sharks were picked to finish fifth at the league meet by the conference coaches. Defending champions Bryant earned six votes in the poll, while perennial contender CCSU was chosen as the runner-up, collecting the remaining three first place nods. Wagner was picked third, followed by Saint Francis U and LIU in fourth and fifth, respectively. Sacred Heart, St. Francis Brooklyn, Mount St. Mary's and NEC newcomer Merrimack rounded out the poll in that order.
The 2020 NEC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will return to Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY from February 19-22.
SCOUTING THE SHARKS
LIU brings its deepest team in history to the pool, as the Sharks have a strong group of 12 upperclassmen leading the way, as well as seven freshmen bringing youth to the roster. The lone senior,
Noemie Lacroix-Moreau, is captain, along with junior
Amanda Peren and sophomore
