Jamilah Lindo joined the LIU dance team as an assistant coach in December 2021.
Originally from Amityville on Long Island, Lindo has been dancing for more than 20 years. Her training experience consists of a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and hip-hop.
Lindo danced professionally as a Knicks City Dancer for three seasons, performing at Madison Square Garden, The World’s Most Famous Arena, from 2015 to 2018.
As a Knicks City Dancer, Lindo represented the NBA's Knicks both on and off the court as a brand ambassador.
She worked with noted choreographers including Brian Friedman, Tracy Shibata, Lacey Schwimmer, Maks Chmerkovskiy and Bobby Newberry.
During her collegiate years at New York University, Lindo was a member of the competitive Purple and White Dance Team. She competed in the National Dance Alliance College Nationals in style combinations of jazz, pom and hip-hop. She choreographed several routines while on the team.
Lindo graduated magna cum laude from NYU with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and minors in American sign language as well as child and adolescent mental health. She earned a master's degree in school psychology from St. John’s University, where she is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.
Aside from coaching, Lindo works as a school psychologist for elementary school children on Long Island.
