BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Sharks secured their sixth straight NEC Tournament berth with a 5-2 win against Stonehill Friday afternoon.
Justin DeCastro was in command all the way through on the mound, tossing a season-high eight and a third innings, while striking out four and allowing just two runs.
LIU's offense got to Stonehill pitching early, with
Matthew McGurk sending a two-run blast over the wall in the bottom of the second to give his team a 2-0 lead. From there, the Sharks tacked on two runs in the fourth as
Noah Sorensen singled home a run and McGurk came around to score via a
Ryan Rivera sacrifice fly.
Mike Polubinski drove in another run in the fifth via a sacrifice fly as well.
McGurk went 2-for-4 in the game, with two RBI and two runs scored, and Rivera was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for LIU.
The Sharks and Skyhawks will wrap things up on Sunday, May 10 during Senior Day at 1 p.m.
