Augusta, N.J. – LIU opened the NEC Tournament with an 11-5 win over number-four seeded Le Moyne on Thursday afternoon.
Less than a week after putting the finishing touches on their second consecutive regular season NEC title, the Sharks rode the momentum of securing the top seed in the conference to secure the victory.
Despite finding themselves down 3-0 in the bottom of the first, LIU's offense started its day by putting up a five-spot in the inning. RBI singles by
Mike Polubinski and
Nick Matson started things off before a three-run homer from
Cord Dobrinski helped LIU take an early 5-3 lead.
The Sharks would never trail again, only adding to their lead throughout the game.
Dobrinski finished the day going 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored, while Polubinski ended up driving in three by game's end.
Joseph Durso also chipped in with a 2-for-4 outing of his own with two RBI.
Nicholas Finarelli settled in after the first inning on the mound, going eight strong innings and getting the win for LIU.
As the NEC Tournament continues, the Sharks will play next on Friday, May 22 at 4 p.m.
