BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University men's volleyball team (13-14, 5-6 NEC) celebrated its seniors with a win over D'Youville University on Friday night, defeating the Saints in three sets.
Prior to the match, LIU honored five members of its senior class; seniors Isaac Benka, Vanja Petrasinovic, Slater Fuhrman, Drew McNellis, and Kale Spencer.
LIU never trailed over the first two sets, defeating D'Youville by set scores of 25-12 and 25-17. Both sets were capped off by points from Benka; first, a service ace to close out the first set, then a kill to end the second frame.
Friday's third set was back-and-forth between the Sharks and Saints, with both teams tied at 20 late in the set. LIU scored five of the next seven points to win the set 25-22, ending the win with a kill by Spencer.
Spencer led LIU with 15 kills and a .520 hitting percentage, followed by eight from redshirt sophomore Heston Cabinian and six by sophomore Lucas Ramos. Sophomore Owen Holowecky posted 30 assists, while Fuhrman led the Sharks with nine digs. Petrasinovic and Cabinian tied for a team-high five total blocks.
LIU closes the regular season against the Saints on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m. in Brooklyn.
