Vreeman Scores Twice, Weilandt Nets Game-Winner as Sharks Sweep Franklin Pierce

Sharks earn 6th win in last 8 games

RINDGE, N.H. - Senior forward Paige Vreeman scored two goals with two assists and senior forward Anya Weilandt scored the game-winner with 1:16 remaining as the Long Island University women's ice hockey team (13-14-1, 11-10-1 NEWHA) defeated Franklin Pierce University (14-10-2, 13-7-2 NEWHA), 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

The Sharks won for the sixth time in their last eight games and earned their fourth weekend series sweep of the season.

Vreeman opened the scoring with a power play goal at 13:03 of the first period, assisted by Addison Robillard and Drew Dyczkowski. But moments later Franklin Pierce tied the game on a power play goal by Bo Dean at 16:46.

Still knotted 1-1 into the third period, Vreeman scored her second goal of the night at 6:18, assisted by Grace Babington and Kristen Kiggen, giving LIU a 2-1 lead.

The two sides traded goals in the third period. After FPU tied the score 2-2, Grace Babington scored at 11:29 of the third with assists by Vreeman and Robillard momentarily giving LIU a 3-2 lead, before Franklin Pierce tied the score again with less than five minutes remaining.

With time running down in a tie game, Weilandt scored her first game-winner of the season at 18:44 via assists from Vreeman and Emma Mörtl.

Vreeman (4), Robillard (2), and Babington (2) each tallied multi-point games for the Sharks. Redshirt sophomore goaltender Victoria Rutnik made 31 saves.

The Sharks return to action on Friday, Feb. 6, in the first game of a weekend home pair versus Saint Anselm College. Puck drop at Northwell Health Ice Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
