RINDGE, N.H. - Freshman defender
Addison Robillard scored the game-winning goal with 1:55 remaining in overtime and the Long Island University women's ice hockey team (12-14-1, 10-10-1 NEWHA) defeated Franklin Pierce University (14-9-2, 13-6-2 NEWHA), 2-1, on Friday afternoon at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. With the win, LIU earned its fifth win in its last seven games.
The Sharks opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game when freshman forward
Evelyn Latka scored her second career goal, assisted by
Eliza Quackenbush and
Anya Weilandt, giving LIU a 1-0 lead.
Franklin Pierce answered at 10:13 of the second period when Maggie Korneta tied the game with an assist by goaltender Jill Hertl.
The two sides skated scoreless through the third period and into the extra session. LIU goaltender
Victoria Rutnik made 37 saves as the Sharks blocked eight shots.
Robillard's overtime goal was the first game-winning goal of her career. She was assisted by
Drew Dyczkowski and
Grace Babington, who recorded her team-leading 12
th assist and 22
nd point of the season.
The two sides return to action on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. as the Sharks seek their fourth weekend series sweep of the season and third of conference play.
