Sharks Mount Double-Digit Comeback to Defeat Saint Francis

Jamal Fuller, Greg Gordon score 20-plus as Sharks reach 4-0 in NEC

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University men's basketball team (10-7, 4-0 NEC) remained unbeaten in conference play by defeating Saint Francis University (4-13, 2-2 NEC) 67-63 on Saturday, coming back after being down by 10 points to defeat the Red Flash.

LIU led by as many as seven points to begin the first half, taking a 15-8 lead on a jump shot by redshirt senior Malachi Davis, however Saint Francis rallied to tie the game at 15 less than three minutes later. As each team continued to trade baskets, Saint Francis began to pull away to take a 38-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A made three-pointer by the Red Flash put Saint Francis up 41-31 just over a minute into the second half, but the Sharks continued to chip away at the lead; an extended 16-5 LIU scoring run gave the Sharks their first lead of the second half, as graduate student Jamal Fuller connected on a layup to put LIU up 47-46.

Following a brief lead change, LIU marched on an 11-0 scoring run to take a 10-point lead with under eight minutes left in the game. The Red Flash cut it to a one-point game with a made three-pointer with 1:38 on the clock, but the Sharks forced two late Red Flash turnovers to earn their eventual 67-63 win.

Fuller led all scorers with a season-high 23 points, followed closely by Greg Gordon with 22 points. Graduate student Caleb Johnson finished the game with a season-high 11 points. Gordon recorded his first double-double as a Shark with a game-high 12 rebounds, while also leading LIU with three blocks. Junior Jomo Goings finished with a team-high four steals.

NEC-leading LIU hits the road on Saturday, Jan. 17, to take on FDU at 7 p.m.
