BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — LIU won its fifth in a row on Friday, defeating Maryland Eastern Shore 7-0 in game one of its double header.
The Sharks were led by lead-off hitter
Jacob Pipercic, who tripled twice en route to a three RBI Day. His first extra base hit of the afternoon came in the third, when he tripled home
Jarod Wade and
Max Samson to help LIU jump out to a 2-0 lead. He then came around to score via a sacrifice fly by
Benjamin Fierenzi, making it 3-0 Sharks.
Tyler Benick would help LIU continue its offensive attack in the fourth, hitting a home run. Pipercic's second triple of the day would come not long after, scoring Wade yet again. LIU tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning to make it 7-0.
That was more than enough support for starting pitcher
Garrett Yawn, who went the distance and struck out six through nine innings while allowing just five hits and one walk. This marked his fifth consecutive start of seven innings or more.
LIU and Maryland Eastern Shore will play game two of Friday's double header at 3:15 p.m.
