BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — LIU came from behind to defeat Iona on Wednesday afternoon, culminating its win in walk-off fashion by a score of 6-5.
The Sharks found themselves down, facing an early deficit of 5-0 by the third inning. It was then that the team begin to chip away, with
Jack Power hitting a sacrifice fly that scored
Jacob Pipercic to help LIU score its first run of the game.
Pipercic would later take center stage himself and hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Jarod Wade hit a two-run single in the sixth, making it 5-4. Pipercic would single home another run later in the inning, helping the Sharks tie things up.
The ever-active Pipercic found himself on base yet again in the bottom of the ninth when
Ryan Rivera came to the plate. That's when the junior infielder put on the hero cape, hitting an RBI single to bring Pipercic around and send the Sharks home victorious, 6-5.
Rivera went on to lead LIU with a 3-for-5 day with that winning run representing his sole RBI. Pipercic had two hits, three runs scored, and one RBI in the game.
The Sharks will return to the field on Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m., hosting Maryland Eastern Shore.
