EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team is headed to the NEWHA finals for the second time in three years after shutting out Post University, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Northwell Health Ice Center.
Ryane Kearns struck just 28 seconds into the second period, delivering the game-winning goal and putting LIU on top early. The Sharks have now outscored their opponents 8-0 in the NEWHA Tournament.

Abbie Thompson, who entered the game ranked in the NCAA's top 10 with a .661 winning percentage, stopped 14 shots to secure her third consecutive shutout and her 21st win of the season. The win also improves LIU's all-time record against Post to 19-1-1.
Kings Park, N.Y., native Jeannie Waller provided the insurance goal, netting her team-leading 14th tally of the season at the 12:54 mark of the third period.
"It was a total team effort today," said head coach
Kelly Nash. "Abbie was outstanding in net for us. We are excited to be back in the finals."
LIU hosts Sacred Heart on Saturday at 7 p.m. The winner clinches a spot in the NCAA tournament.
