Jersey City, N.J. . — LIU lost to Saint Peter's 9-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Sharks fell behind early, but a three-run second inning would help them bounce back and take a 3-1 lead.
Ryan Rivera drove in his first run of the day with a double to left-center, scoring
Joseph Durso.
Chandler Ketchup would next ground out to shortstop, allowing Rookie of the Week
Mason Breton to cross the plate.
Jacob Pipercic would single later in the inning, bringing home Rivera for an RBI and a LIU lead that would only grow not long after.
In the third, a pair of sacrifice flies by Durso and Rivera -- who once again added to his team-leading RBI total of 11 – made it 5-1 courtesy of the Sharks. Durso is currently second on the team with six RBI.
Saint Peter's went on to mount a successful comeback, initially cutting LIU's lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the third inning. A four-run sixth inning gave the home team an 8-5 lead. LIU's opponent tacked on one more run in the seventh.
This proved to be a deficit too great for LIU to come back from, though a walk to
Noah Sorensen with the bases loaded in the ninth would bring home one more run before the game was complete.
The Sharks will open up their home schedule on Friday, March 7, hosting Central Connecticut State at 2 p.m.
