Villanova, Pa. — LIU suffered a 17-7 defeat to Villanova on Saturday, tying their weekend series at one following the Sharks' 10-7 victory on Friday.
Joseph Durso and
Chandler Ketchup both homered for LIU as part of a five-run fifth inning that saw the Sharks attempt to mount a comeback. With his team trailing 9-2, Ketchup got the rally going with his first round-tripper of the season, a solo shot. Durso later followed suit with a three-run homer with
Noah Sorensen and
Jack Power on the base paths. After hitting his first home run of the season on Friday,
Max Samson drove in the inning's fifth run with an RBI single, pulling LIU within two at 9-7.
The formidable comeback attempt fell short for the Sharks, as the Wildcats tacked on eight more runs before the game was over.
Elsewhere in the contest,
Jack Power followed up Saturday's two homer day with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring two runs.
Tyler Benick also tallied two hits for LIU.
The two teams will conclude their series with game three on Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
