EASTON, Mass. - The Long Island University softball team completed a sweep over Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Skyhawks 8-0 in six innings.
Sunday's win came following the Sharks sweeping a doubleheader against the Skyhawks, winning 12-8 and 8-0 on Saturday.
"We got solid pitching from Alyssa O'Donnell and Sarah Wall along with timely hitting today," LIU softball Head Coach Andy Russo said.
After recording 26 total hits across both games of Saturday's doubleheader, the Sharks continued to keep the bats hot with a two-RBI single by graduate student Dallas Andrews in the top of the first inning. LIU later scored three runs in the top of the third inning, with sophomore Kaylee Clarkson hitting an RBI single, freshman Hannah Burnett scoring on a wild pitch and Clarkson scoring later in the inning.
Already leading 5-0, the Sharks extended their lead with an RBI single by Clarkson in the top of the fifth and again with senior Alyssa Polemeni driving in a run after grounding into a fielder's choice, where sophomore Lily Hinkle scored on the throw.
Junior Alyssa Garcia led the Sharks with three hits, going three-for-three at the plate. Clarkson and Andrews tied for a team-high two RBI apiece in the win. Senior Alyssa O'Donnell and junior Sarah Wall combined to surrender just two hits in the game, with O'Donnell being given the win and Wall being awarded with a save.
LIU travels to Erie, Pennsylvania for a three-game series against Mercyhurst next weekend, with the first game beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
