Bethlehem, Pa. – LIU baseball concluded its three-game series at Lehigh with a 4-3 win on Saturday.
The Sharks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a
Ryan Rivera RBI-single that scored
Chandler Ketchup in the top of the first. It was the junior's team-leading ninth RBI of the season.
Lehigh went on to tie things up at one later in the inning, but LIU responded rather quickly. The team loaded the bases in the top of the second, leading to another run to cross the plate and score after Ketchup was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat, giving the Sharks a 2-1 advantage.
From there, LIU kept the pressure on offensively.
Cord Dobrinski hit an RBI-double to score
Mason Breton to make it 3-1 in the third. Breton had a stellar game, leading the Sharks with a 4-for-5 outing while scoring two runs.
Joseph Durso also drove in a run for the third consecutive game with an RBI single, giving LIU a 4-1 lead by the fourth.
As his team secured the early lead,
Justin DeCastro kept Lehigh in check on the mound, pitching very well throughout. He earned his first win of the year by tossing seven innings and holding Lehigh to five hits and just two earned runs.
Evan Panjwani closed things out for his third save of the season.
LIU will return to the field Tuesday, March 4, playing Saint Peter's at 3 p.m.
