BROOKLYN, NY – The Long Island University softball team fell 8-4 in the rubber match of its Northeast Conference opening series against Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday afternoon, ending the series with a 1-2 record against the Knights.
FDU struck first in the game, scoring a run in the top off the first inning off a Shark error. With the Knights later leading 3-0, LIU got on the board with a two-RBI single by senior Alyssa Polemeni. The Knights added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning before LIU scratched another run with an RBI single by sophomore Jen Rodriguez in the bottom of the same inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, trailing FDU 8-3, the Sharks got the bases loaded and scored a run on an RBI by sophomore Jaedyn Lincoln that sent home graduate student Nyae' Dick to cut the lead to four; however, the Sharks were unable to cut any further into the FDU lead, falling 8-4.
