BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Four Sharks advanced out of regional competition in men's and women's fencing last weekend, punching their tickets to next week's NCAA Fencing Championships in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Two fencers advanced from the Long Island University men's and women's teams; Mo Elsayed qualified in men's epee, Andrew Gefell qualified in men's saber, Costanza Greggi qualified in women's epee and Anna Szántay qualified in women's foil.

Elsayed took fifth in the men's epee competition at the Northeast Regional, one spot ahead of his pre-tournament seeding, finishing the tournament with a 16-7 record and a +29 indicator.

Gefell finished ninth in the men's saber regional competition, posting a 10-13 record with a -10 indicator after the final pool of competition. The junior from Farmington, N.Y. outperformed the No. 14 seeding he received entering the tournament.

In the women's epee competition, Greggi made a leap from being the No. 19 seed entering the competition to finishing in 12th place to qualify for the NCAA championships next week. Greggi, a senior from Rome, Italy, posted an 8-8 record with a +11 indicator through the first four pools of competition.

Szántay, a graduate student from Gyömro, Hungary, placed ninth in the women's foil competition at regionals. The NCAA-qualifier ended the day at regionals with a 10-13 record and a -3 indicator.

The NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships begin March 20 in University Park, Pennsylvania. The men's competition will be on March 20-21, and the women's competition will be March 22-23.
