MANCHESTER, N.H. — The LIU women's hockey team tied Saint Anselm on Saturday, eventually earning a 2-1 win in a shootout following goals by
Carrigan Umpherville and
Ryane Kearns.
Just one night after clinching their third straight NEWHA regular season title, the Sharks picked up right where they left off to begin Saturday's game against Saint Anselm. LIU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as
Ashley Morrow scored her fourth goal of the season just seven seconds into the second period, and
Bri Eid followed suit with her fifth of the season less than two minutes later.
The second period proved to be an eventful one for both teams as Saint Anselm would tie things up later in the period. The score would remain the same the rest of the way, with Umpherville and Kearns rising up as heroes and scoring their goals in the shootout to ensure LIU prevailed.
The Sharks will move on to the quarterfinals of the NEWHA Championship, taking the ice at Northwell Health Ice Center on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
