BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Nicholas Finarelli has been named NEC Pitcher of the Week following a standout performance in LIU's opening weekend.
 
Leading the Sharks to their first victory of the season, Finarelli tossed six shutout innings in a 6-3 win over Marist on Feb. 14. The redshirt sophomore struck out five while allowing just four hits and one walk.
 
Also receiving recognition for his efforts this week was Benjamin Fierenzi, who earned an NEC Prime Performer nod. The senior shortstop batted .357 in the 2-2 week for LIU, hitting two doubles and scoring four runs.
 
The Sharks will return to the field this coming Friday, Feb. 21, visiting the University of Texas at San Antonio.
