LIU Earns Program-Record 17th Win with Victory Over Alaska Anchorage

Sharks surpass previous record of 16 wins set last season

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. The Long Island University men's hockey team (17-11-2) set a program record by earning its 17th win of the season with a 4-2 victory over the University of Alaska Anchorage (5-22-5) on Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center. By earning its 17th win, LIU surpassed its previous high watermark of 16 wins set last season.

"Gritty way to win a hockey game, coming from behind," said head coach Brett Riley. "Super proud of our team. It's a program milestone and another benchmark. We love to keep adding and keep building here, so I'm really proud."

Carter Rapalje scored a goal in the second period to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead, but LIU found itself down 2-1 midway through the third. Daniel Baldassarra, Trent Powell, and John Gormley all subsequently went scored as the Sharks mounted a successful comeback, piling on the goals in the final period and not allowing its opponent to score again.

LIU will return to play on Friday, Feb. 21, at Stonehill College  at 7 p.m.
