Chicago, IL. — Playing in overtime for the third time in five games, LIU lost to Chicago State 73-67 on Saturday afternoon.
Malachi Davis came up in the clutch with a phenomenal performance. He scored a season-high 32 points, sinking his first ten shots from the field. He finished the game shooting 11 of 16, including four of five from downtown.
The Cougars scored the first bucket of the game, but thanks to Davis' prowess, that's the only lead Chicago State would have in regulation. LIU was in control throughout, until its opponent tied the game up with 42 seconds remaining and eventually pulled ahead after forcing overtime.
While Davis paced the Sharks offensively, freshman Shadrak Lasu provided some much-appreciated physicality on defense, pulling down a team-high 8 rebounds and swatting a season-high 5 blocks.
LIU will return to the court Thursday, Feb. 6, visiting Wagner at 7 p.m.
