SHELTON, Conn. - The Long Island University women's ice hockey team (6-8-1, 4-8-1 NEWHA) downed Post University (6-12-1, 6-6-1 NEWHA), 3-1, on Friday afternoon at the Sports Center of Connecticut to open the weekend home-and-home series.
Drew Dyczkowski, Emma
Mörtl, and
Victoria Petruska each scored goals. Junior goaltender
Clara Kammholz made 28 saves.
Down 1-0 after allowing a power play goal early in the second period, Dyczkowski scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, assisted by
Mörtl and
Grace Babington, tying the game, 1-1, at 6:09 of the frame. Babington's assist was her team-best 11th point of the season.
In the third, LIU took its first lead on a goal by Petruska with 9:31 to play, assisted by
Anya Weilandt. Moments later, the Sharks stretched the lead to 3-1 when Mortl scored via assists from Petruska and
Crosby Wildfong at 11:47.
Mörtl and Petruska led LIU with two points apiece.
The Sharks outshot Post, 34-29.
Sam Mathe blocked five shots.
LIU returns home on Saturday night versus Post at the Northwell Health Ice Center for Ice Hockey in Harlem Night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
