MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - Tied 2-2 in the third period, the Long Island University men's ice hockey time (6-9-0) rattled off three goals in the final 10 minutes to down Lindenwood University (8-6-0), 5-2, on Saturday night to earn a split in the weekend series between DI Independents.
J.R Perdion led the Sharks with two goals and three points.
LIU led 2-1 through the first two periods behind goals from
Trevor Griebel and Perdion but relinquished the lead when Lindenwood's Jacob Fletcher scored at the 8:54 mark of the third period, tying the game 2-2.
Moments later a hooking call against Lindenwood's Ethan Zielke put LIU on the power play. Perdion scored his second goal of the game at 10:07 via an assist from
Noah Serdachny, his third assist of the weekend, giving the Sharks a 3-2 lead.
At 13:18 Louis-Philippe Fontaine was called for charging, and LIU went on the power play again. Serdachny scored at 14:12, assisted by Perdion and
Nate Benoit, stretching the lead to 4-2.
The Sharks tacked on another goal with just less than three minutes to play at even strength when
Isaac Lambert scored via an assist from Serdachny. Serdachny tied Perdion with a game-high three points.
LIU finished 2-for-6 on the power play and held Lindenwood 0-for-6 on power play chances.
Daniel Duris made 31 saves as the Sharks outshot the Lions 41-33.
LIU returns to action on Friday versus Assumption University at Northwell Health Ice Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
